Land Clearing Cost Calculator: Estimate Your Project in 6 Steps
Pick a service, your state, the acreage and what is growing on it, then choose what happens to the debris. The calculator applies size, terrain, access, disposal and state cost factors and returns a planning range with a line-by-line breakdown, not a single guess. It covers dozer clearing, forestry mulching, bush hogging, tree removal, stump grinding and hourly machine work. For average prices per acre, by lot size and by method, read our land clearing cost guide.

How the Land Clearing Cost Calculator Works
Every estimate follows one formula. Price per acre starts from vegetation density, then each site condition multiplies it. Disposal, stumps and site work are added, the state cost index scales the subtotal, and fixed items such as mobilization and permits come last.
- 1
Area cost
Acres × base rate for the vegetation density × size factor × terrain × access × ground × clearing type.
- 2
Disposal
Haul-off adds 45% of the area cost, chipping adds 12%, pile-and-burn adds $250 per acre where burning is legal. Forestry mulching leaves the mulch on site at no extra charge.
- 3
Extras
Stumps at about $4 per inch of diameter (minimum $150), large trees priced one by one, grading at $1.25 per sq ft, silt fence at $4 per linear foot, hydroseeding at $0.15 per sq ft.
- 4
State cost index
The subtotal is multiplied by your state factor, from 0.88 in Mississippi to 1.30 in California.
- 5
Fixed costs
Transport inside 60 miles of a crew yard is included. Beyond that, mobilization runs $300 for a compact mulcher and $750 for standard clearing equipment. Permits and surveys pass through at cost.
- 6
Range
The minimum job charge applies to small jobs, and the result is shown as a range from 20% below to 25% above the typical total.

Worked Example: 2 Moderately Wooded Acres in Georgia
Two acres of moderately wooded land on rolling ground in Georgia, cleared with a dozer and all debris hauled off.
- 1
Area cost
2 acres × $3,200 × 1.00 size factor × 1.15 rolling terrain = $7,360.
- 2
Haul-off
45% of $7,360 = $3,312, for a subtotal of $10,672.
- 3
Georgia index
$10,672 × 0.93 = $9,925.
- 4
Mobilization
$750 for standard equipment beyond 60 miles, for a typical total of $10,675. Inside 60 miles of a crew yard, transport is included and the total is $9,925.
- 5
Range shown
$8,540 to $13,340 with mobilization. Mulching the same 2 acres instead of hauling would remove the $3,312 disposal line.
Where These Numbers Come From
Base rates are a consensus of 2025–2026 national cost guides and contractor price sheets. State indexes use BLS OEWS May 2025 median wages for construction equipment operators ($28.78 per hour nationally) and tree trimmers ($24.50 per hour), with labor treated as about 45% of price, then adjusted for published state prices, disposal costs, regulation and remote logistics. Terrain, access, grubbing and mobilization factors are estimates. Every result is a planning range: rock, buried debris, soft ground and permit rules are only confirmed on a site walk, and your Clearline price is set in writing before work starts.

Land Clearing Cost Calculator FAQ
How accurate is this land clearing cost calculator?
It gives a planning range from 20% below to 25% above the typical total, built from 2025–2026 national price data and a state cost index. Rock, buried debris, wet ground and local permit rules are confirmed on a site walk, and the final price is set in writing.
Is debris haul-off included in the estimate?
Only if you choose it. Haul-off adds 45% of the area cost, chipping 12% and pile-and-burn $250 per acre. Mulching and leaving debris on site add nothing.
Is there a minimum charge for small lots?
Yes. Typical minimums are $1,200 for forestry mulching, $1,500 for dozer or excavator clearing, $300 for bush hogging, $250 for tree removal and $150 for stump grinding. Lots under half an acre also carry a 1.35 size factor.
How do I get an exact price for my land?
Send the form with your ZIP and phone or call (888) 709-7985. Marisol emails a budget range the same day and books an on-site estimate with the crew nearest you.
How does the calculator adjust for my state?
Each state has a cost index built from BLS operator wages and published local price points, from 0.88 in Mississippi to 1.30 in California. The subtotal is multiplied by that index. Leave the state on National average if you are comparing methods.
Can I share or save my estimate?
Yes. Every answer is stored in the page address, so the Copy a link button gives you a link that reopens the calculator with the same inputs.
